Memorial Baseball Showcase

“Mickey” McGuire Memorial Baseball Showcase

This showcase is an opportunity for competitive play amongst baseball organizations at low cost, and an exciting atmosphere, from around the state of Florida and beyond: Highlighting teams and baseball players 8U - 18U.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________

M.C. “Mickey” McGuire (1941-2025) was an icon from Dayton, Ohio, who without a high school baseball team and a competitive league in the urban area, was able to become the first black MLB drafted baseball player from his area. He went on to enjoy over 15 years (1960-1975) of professional baseball, excelling in the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago White Sox A-AAA organizations (playing often in Durkeeville of Jacksonville, Florida), and ending his career on the continent of Asia, playing for the Hiroshima (Japan) Carps. After his professional career, he devoted his time to coaching (Wright State University, Central State University, DABC Mickey’s Braves, and High School), conducting training clinics for coaches and players, umpiring baseball, officiating other sports, and being a mentor to hundreds of athletes, many of them becoming professional players in different sports.

This showcase is to continue his legacy, by giving exposure and developmental training to the next great urban athletes (Baseball Players) in these United States.
